So Jay gives Yukine a call to talk about it directly.

Omi and Ouka were targeted by Jay during Tanabata, but they weren't killed until July 10th.

Since canon glosses over 3/4 of his life, I'd like to fill in some of the blanks with headcanon. After the boy (then still going by "Jay") killed his family and attacked Sister Ruth, he was institutionalized for awhile. Some time in the next few years, a teenage Crawford had a vision of this boy as being necessary to Crawford's survival -- specifically, Jay would be able to kill one of the Eszett elders. He reported his discovery of a potential Talent to the administration of Rozenkreuz (the world's worst boarding school), and Jay was brought in for examination.

In order to further develop his small ability to withstand pain, Jay was tortured and experimented on for years. until finally he because Farfarello, the demon, and was assigned to Schwarz as the team berserker. Ruth's betrayal of his trust was determined to be a trigger event that exacerbated his berserker tendencies, and this was exploited by Rosenkreuz, turning what would have been healthy adolescent atheism into a full-blown deicidal obsession.

Personality:
1. Farf hates God. This can't be underlined enough - Farf's declared mission in life is to kill the Christian God, and this loathing extends to God's followers. The very sight of a crucifix or stained glass window can set him off into a berserker rage, and he takes special pleasure in torturing priests, taunting them to call on their impotent, uncaring God to save them. He claims that God took his family from him (in reality, he murdered them when it was revealed that they were his adoptive family, and the nun he admired so much was actually his birth mother, destroying both his family ties and his faith in the purity of God's followers in one fell swoop), and this betrayal by the God he formerly believed in and loved has left him a bit of a whiny little shit. Farf sees himself as a victim of God's cruelty, and this excuses all the pain and suffering that Farf causes, since it's done in the name of revenge.

AS A SHINKI his religious upbringing and tendency toward obsession will make him the most devoted shinki any god could hope to acquire. Just don't ever betray him or show any sign of being fallible.

2. Farf feels no pain. There's no canon reason given for his lack of pain, but his fighting ability suggests that he is able to detect tactile sensation, and the sensations just don't register as “good” or “bad”. He can tell the difference between cement and fur, or a cold piece of metal and a hot one, but the pain from touching the hot metal doesn't bother him. I headcanon that it was Rosenkreuz's meddling around in his brain that caused this lack of feeling. His brain is severely (physically) damaged at this point in canon, and the effects of this damage will be unpredictable and undoubtedly violent.

AS A SHINKI, he is not aware that this lack of feeling is unusual.

3. Farf doesn't like you. No. He doesn't. He doesn't like anyone, and finds the idea of friends, companions, and co-workers laughable. People are either beneath his interest, to be tolerated - his team, Schwarz, falls into this category, as the desires of the team mesh well with Farf's own, and their love of violence and chaos makes for some interesting evenings out - or to be killed, as either opponents or prey.

AS A SHINKI he will be loyal unto death to his god, and to anyone that his god tells him to be loyal to. He has no real interest in associating with anyone other than his god.

4. Farf is neuroatypical. To justify his canon 'crazy' (and to try and make sense out of 90s anime), I headcanon that Farf is very schizophrenic (among a range of other, mostly undiagnosed, conditions). He's prone to aural and visual hallucinations, a condition that has been exacerbated by the severe brain damage at the hands of Rosenkreuz.

5. Farf is bright. Underneath all the damage is a young man who, as a child, was an avid reader with a quick mind and the ability to retain large amounts of information. He speaks at least three languages (English, German, and Japanese), and has an encyclopedic (if somewhat biased) understanding of Christianity in general and Catholicism in specific. He's also well-read -- he named himself after a minor character from Dante's Inferno, after all.

» Appearance: 5'10”, approximately 180 lbs, most of that muscle. His short-cropped hair is carroty-red, but it's been bleached into straw. He's covered with scars of all sizes, the most notable being a couple of deep gashes across his face, and at some point, years ago, he dug out his own left eye, the socket of which is covered with a leather eyepatch. He will arrive in The Far Shore wearing sturdy cargo pants, heavy boots, and a double-breasted jacket with the sleeves ripped off, and he will continue dressing in this style unless instructed otherwise by his god.

Abilities: Aside from the aforementioned inability to be bothered by pain, Farf is a highly skilled assassin. He's stronger than he appears (as he doesn't stop straining his muscles when they hurt, or even tear), and much more limber than one would expect of such a muscular person.

Strengths: Focused. Endurance. Adaptable. Curious. Loyal.
Weaknesses: Irrational. Obsessive. Selfish. Uneducated. Violent.
